How to Limit Your Liability
If your credit debit card information is stolen, the Electronic Fund Transfer limits your liability for unauthorized electronic fund transfers. You have 60 days from the date your bank account statement is sent to report any money withdrawn from your account without your permission. This time period includes when your credit or debit card information has been stolen even if you haven't lost your card.
What should you do? First, report the problem immediately. If you report the loss or theft within two business days of discovery, your losses are limited to $50. If you report the loss or theft after two business days but within sixty days after the unauthorized electronic fund transfer appears on your statement you could lose up to $500 of the amount stolen.
But keep in mind many card issuers limit or waive altogether your liability for unauthorized use of your cards. Check with your card issuer for more information.
